Types of Braces

What will you look like with braces? You might be picturing your grin covered in a metal cage, but the truth is that your appliance may not be so obvious. In fact, it might not be visible at all. Here are some of the types of braces we offer our patients and the key facts you should know about them.

Traditional Metal Braces

  • The most common braces used
  • Designs have improved over the past, making them smaller and more comfortable
  • Require frequent adjustments
  • Are highly effective and affordable

Self-Ligating Braces

  • Do not require elastics
  • Have smaller brackets
  • Are less visible
  • More effective than traditional braces
  • Require fewer appointments

Ceramic Braces

  • Blend in with the color of the teeth
  • Are used with self-ligating braces systems
  • Cannot be placed on the bottom teeth
  • Are very delicate
  • Can stain if not cared for properly

Invisalign

  • Not actually braces
  • Uses aligners that look like tooth whitening trays
  • All aligners are custom made
  • Fully invisible when worn
  • Require very few office visits
  • Are extremely comfortable
